City Lights: What’s the first book you read & what are you reading right now?
Lynne Tillman: A children’s book about a girl who had a blanket she loved, and the blanket got a hole in it, so she decided to cut it out, and, when she did, the hole got bigger, and puzzled, she cut that out, and then she cut that out, and by the end she had no blanket. I remember reading that on my bed, a five or six-year-old and also being very, very puzzled, even alarmed. Right now, I’m reading Azareen Van der Vliet Oloomi’s Call Me Zebra. She and I are going to discuss it at Books Are Magic [in Brooklyn] at the end of February when it comes out.
